HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Robert People was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1979. He was the second-born of four children and grew up with a single mother in poverty. The family lived in the commonly found row homes of Baltimore’s inner city. They strived to make the best our of their situation and Robert dreamt of better days when his mother no longer had to ride the bus to and from work and they didn’t need to borrow money to make ends meet.
A BORN HELPER

Robert’s mother fought for more opportunities, attending school to become a nursing assistant while working full-time. Robert admired her perseverance and connected with her drive to help people. He first dreamed of becoming a doctor. While his friends feared the doctor and told exaggerated horror stories of their check-ups, he enjoyed the visits. He would endure the shots just for a chance to observe close up how they helped people. He loved the idea of saving people’s lives and appreciated the care and
compassion that doctors showed their patients.
As a teenager, Robert fell in love with the idea of being a teacher, a passion he still carries. He loved school and wanted to give others the same amazing feeling hereceived from learning. Life took Robert in a different direction but the foundation
remained the same – Robert was meant for a life of service.
THE U.S. ARMY

Shortly after starting his senior year in high school, Robert followed in his older brother’s footsteps and signed up to join the Army. He shipped out the day after he turned 18 years old and encountered his first true test in adulthood, completing basic training.
Robert didn’t originally plan to become a career soldier. He was nearing the end of his second enlistment at Fort Cavazos, Texas, when he and other junior soldiers attended a discussion by the Base Command Sergeant Major.
The discussion began, “As I go around to your units and talk to you, there are a lot of complaints, but also a lot of great ideas. However, only a few of you in here want to do the work to go to the promotion board and become Sergeants. You have a golden opportunity to take that next step and maybe implement those ideas you have. Do you want to be part of the problem, or part of the solution?”
Robert knew his answer. He went back to his unit, requested to go before the promotion board, and the rest was history. Robert served the United States of America for 21 years through three combat tours (2 in Iraq, 1 in Afghanistan) and in the roles of
Ammunitions Specialist and Journalist before retiring in 2018.
HELP ROBERT BE PART OF THE SOLUTION

When Robert joined the Army, he took an oath to the Constitution, not a political party or a President. He is NOT done with his oath. His passion for public service drives him to continue to follow the advice of that Command Sergeant Major from 25 years ago and be PART OF THE SOLUTION.
Robert is ready to step up and serve District 15. As your Representative, People isn’t just his last name, they are his FIRST PRIORITY.
